Protesting the attack on journalists and the rigging, Bengal BJP leaders led by state unit president Rahul Sinha have resorted to a sit-in in front of the chamber of state election commissioner Sushanta Ranjan Upadhaaya’s chamber at Rawdon Street in the city.

Bengali TV news channel ABP Ananda’s young reporter Artirik Bhattacharya and cameraperson Parthasarathi Chakraborty were severely beaten up at FD Block in Salt Lake. The two were reporting false voting by some TMC women cadres in a polling booth there since morning.

Miscreants snatched their video camera and when the journalists chased the snatchers to recover the camera, the goons turned back hitting Artirik and Parthasarathi black and blue.

Aritrik was left bleeding from the nose, while Parthasarathi fell on the ground and remained senseless for a while before he was helped with water and by local residents. The two are now admitted to a private nursing home at E M Bypass in the city.
