Midnapore: As many as 50 civic volunteers have been injured in a bus accident in Jhargram district.
This happened today morning when the civic volunteers were travelling in a hired bus from Sankrail in Howrah to Kapgari in Jhragram. They were being taken there for deployment during a public meeting of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that was held today.
As the bus was speeding down National Highway-5, the driver lost control and the bus ended up ramming into a roadside tree at Jitusol area, which is about 32 ahead of Kapgari.
Almost all of the 50 civic volunteers were injured and police later rescued them to Jhargram Super Speciality Hospital. Police sources said that the injury of the civic volunteers ranges from mild to mid-level but none are critical.
Police said that the bus driver apparently fell ill while at the wheels and thus the bus ended up hitting into the tree.
