Asansol: The sexual abuse targeted at women appears to know no age limit ~ be it children or the aged ~ all are vulnerable.
A 75-year-old widow has been raped at a village in East Burdwan district by someone from among her neighbours. The violated elderly woman is now hospitalised and police have arrested a suspect.
The incident has taken place at Bud Bud in East Burdwan on 26 June night. Leaving the elderly woman alone at home, her widow daughter and granddaughter had gone to a relative’s house and stayed back the night there due to heavy rain.
They returned home early on Wednesday (27 June) only to find the aged woman lying unconscious on the floor with her clothes torn and blood oozing out from her private parts. She was at once taken to Durgapur Sub-divisional Hospital, where she is still under treatment.
The septuagenarian has said that on Tuesday night someone forced into the house by breaking down a window and then raped her. She couldn’t properly see the face of her tormentor as it was dark.
Her family lodged an FIR at Bud Bud police station on Wednesday afternoon. Police swung into action and rounded up several suspects from in and around the village.
In the face of interrogation, one of them, Kalidas Bagdi (30) gave incongruous replies as regards where he was in the night of the crime and whether he knows the tortured woman, etc. Following this, police arrested him and produced him in Durgapur Sub-divisional Court today (28 June).
The judge has remanded him in police custody and has ordered a test identification parade in front of the violated woman.
