Kolkata, 24 October: BENGALI film and television actor Pijush Ganguly, who was critically injured in a road accident near Satragachi Bridge in Howrah on 20 October, has been put on life support since late yesterday night.
This after the 50-year old actor faced breathing trouble and his heart beat became irregular. Sources in the south Kolkata nursing home where Ganguly is admitted, said that a surgery that was scheduled to be performed on the actor today has been deferred indefinitely in view of the deterioration of his health condition.
Ganguly was driving a sedan on the Kona Expressway on 20 October Tuesday afternoon with dancer Malabika Sen seated next to him. A speeding lorry hit their car from the front near Satragachi Bridge, injuring both of them.
They were first admitted to the Howrah district hospital and were relocated to the south Kolkata nursing home that evening. Ganguly was soon admitted to the intensive care unit as he had suffered grave injuries in his head and leg.
Dancer Sen sustained injuries on her face and hand. She underwent a plastic surgery on 21 October and is likely to be discharged from the nursing home tomorrow.
Ganguly is a noted Bengali actor and has earned much accolades for his performance in the 2004 Bengali movie Mahulbonir Sereng. He is also an acclaimed thespian in Kolkata.
