Kolkata: Durga Puja is less than a month away and Kolkatans are making the best of the weekends to shop apparels and accessories for the festival. The result: overcrowding of Metro trains and other modes of transport.

To address this problem, Metro Railway has announced that it will operate pre-Puja additional trains from this weekend itself. Metro does this every year but this time the additional trains are being introduced a little earlier than before.

Going by this, beginning 22 September, as many as 284 trains will hit the Metro tracks every Saturday till 13 October. Usually, Metro operates 224 trains on Saturday and hence, it’s an increase of 60 trains.

Likewise, beginning 23 September, there will be 174 Metro trains serving the commuters every Sunday till 14 October. This is an increase of 64 trains as Metro usually operates 110 trains on Sunday.

The timings of the first and last Metro trains will, however, remain unchanged. That is, 6.45 am and 9.55 pm on Saturday; 9.50 am and 9.55 pm on Sunday.
