Midnapore: An Adivasi woman and her spinster daughter have been found dead in a forest in Jhargram district in the Junglemahal.
The two have been identified as Pramila Mahato (63) and, Chanchala Mahato (38). They were residents of Jambedia village that comes under Jhargram development block.
A widow, Pramila was mother to two sons and two daughters. The sons separated from the main family after marriage and live in different houses.
Pramila used to live with her two spinster daughters in her husband’s ancestral house.
Neighbours said that Pramila had a brawl with her other second daughter on Saturday (29 December) morning.
After this, she and her elder daughter Chanchala left home saying that they were going to a relative’s house in a nearby village.
But on Monday (31 December) a few villagers who went to collect firewood from the nearby Sankrail forest, found the mother-daughter duo lying dead there. They were empty packets of poison lying near their dead bodies.
On being alerted, police retrieved the dead bodies and sent those for post-mortem to the Jhargram District Hospital. Although no suicide note has been found, the villagers and the police suspect that the duo may have committed suicide due to their hopeless family scenario.
