Siliguri: ADIVASIS at Karandighi in North Dinajpur district today took out an armed rally demanding that the accused in a recent rape and murder of a teenage Adivasi girl should be hanged to death.

The rally was organised by Adivasi Coordination Committee ~ an apolitical pressure group active in north Bengal. Holding axes, bows and arrows, etc. in their hands, a few hundred Adivasi men took part in the rally that moved through National Highway 34 at Karandighi.

The rally slowed down traffic movement on the highway, and apprehensive of violence, a large posse of police personnel were deployed at the venue. [ALSO READ: Raiganj in north Bengal witnesses massive vandalism, arson by Adivasis]
