Diamond Harbour: Barely 10 days since a Trinamool MLA was shot dead by miscreants in Nadia district, a municipal councillor of the party has now been shot at in South 24-Parganas.
This has happened right inside a Trinamool office at Budge Budge around 8.30 in the evening. Mithun Thikadar, who has suffered two bullets, is the Trinamool councillor for Ward 20 of Budge Budge Municipality.
Thikadar had attended a public meeting at Budge Budge addressed by Youth Trinamool president and Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee earlier in the afternoon.
Once the meeting got over, he went to the local Trinamool office and was holding a discussion with fellow party workers. It was then that a group of miscreants stormed into the office, started firing at Thikadar.
In all they fired three rounds of bullets: two of this hit the councillor. One bullet hit him in the chest, the other in the stomach. Thikadar at once fell on the floor and, taking advantage of this, the miscreants fled.
Fellow Trinamool workers rushed the councillor to a local nursing home at Budge Budge.
However, with his condition being critical, he has now been relocated to a private nursing home at Mominpur in south Kolkata.
Thikadar was allegedly involved in the firing on a youth at Budge Budge during the Durga Idol immersion last October. Police had arrested him for this and later a court granted him bail.
Although Trinamool South 24-Parganas leadership has accused the BJP of masterminding the attack on Thikadar, it is strongly suspected that he has become the target revenge for the incident in October.
