Kolkata, 20 August: AIR India has announced an extra baggage allowance for students travelling from India to various destinations abroad.
Under the Maharaja Scholars offer, those travelling on a student or student exchange visa will be allowed an extra piece of luggage weighing up to 23 kg, the airline has said. Besides this, students travelling to Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul, Sydney and Melbourne will be allowed to carry 20 kg of additional baggage.
This will be in addition to the one piece of check-in baggage that is allowed by default for flights to the United Kingdom and Europe, or two pieces of luggage for flights to the United States and Canada. The offer can be availed for travel until 31 March next year.
Air India said that the offer has been specially designed to cater to the increasing number of Indian students who are travelling to the US, UK, Europe, Russia, Japan and Australia to pursue higher studies.
In another move that will come handy for the students, Air India henceforth will not deduct any money for cancellation of tickets owing to visa rejection. For this, students shall have to provide a valid proof of visa rejection.
