Kolkata, 04 March: TRAVELLING to Vellore for treatment at short notice will now be easier for people from the state as the Railways has introduced a fully unreserved express train from Howrah that has all necessary amenities.
Those wanting to travel by the train need not book a ticket in advance. Instead, they need to just buy a general ticket before the departure of the train and get on board.
The train, named Antyodaya Express, will run between Howrah and Ernakulam (Kochi) once in a week. It set out for the maiden run from Howrah station at 05 pm this afternoon.
The train has 16 general second class coaches that have cushioned luggage racks, LED lights, dustbin and mobile / laptop charging points in every coupe, water purifiers, fire extinguishers, anti-graffiti arrangements, and modular bio-toilets. During the long journey, passengers can even sleep on the luggage racks as those are cushioned.
It will stop at Kharagpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Khurda Road, Brahmapur, Palasa, Srikakulam Road, Vizianagaram, Duvvada, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Ongole, Renigunta, Katpadi ( for Vellore), Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Coimbatore, Palakkad, and Thrisur en route the destination.
The 22877 Howrah-Ernakulam Weekly Antyodaya Express will leave Howrah every Saturday at 05 pm, reaching Ernakulam at 06 am every Monday. In the return leg, the 22878 Ernakulam-Howrah Weekly Antyodaya Express will start from Ernakulam every Tuesday at 12.25 midnight and arrive at Howrah at 02.50 pm every Wednesday.
