Kolkata, 08 July:  LIEUTENANT General AS Bedi has taken over as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army’s Bengal Area. He has succeeded Lt Gen Rajeev Tiwari.

Lt Gen Bedi was commissioned into Army’s Garh Rifles in June 1981. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, a graduate of Defence Services Staff College and the prestigious National Defence College.

Prior to his new assignment, he has commanded a Mountain Brigade in the northeast and an Infantry division in Jammu and Kashmir.

During his service life so far, Lt Gen Bedi has represented the country in UN Mission and has also taken part in counter-terrorism operations in Sri Lanka and the J&K. He is a recipient of Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguish service, and Yudh Seva Medal for his performance in the J&K.
