Diamond Harbour: The BJP candidate in Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency in South 24-Parganas district is in a spot over an allegation of molestation of a teenage girl.
The West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights today 10 May has directed Falta police station to arrest the BJP candidate Nilanjan Roy at once.
Not only this, the Commission has also directed the state chief electoral officer (CEO) to take necessary action against Roy within 24 hours.
Ananya Chatterjee, the Commission chairperson, said that since the complaint against the BJP candidate has been lodged under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, the police should have arrested him at once.
Chatterjee said that a Commission team led by her is out to visit where the girl was allegedly molested.
Sources said that the victim girl, who is 17-year-old, was accompanying her father when he went to meet Roy on 26 April. It was then that the BJP candidate allegedly lured her into a separate room and molested her.
Subsequent to this, the girl’s father lodged a complaint at Falta police station. He moved the Commission as the police did not act on his complaint.
