Kolkata: With Lok Sabha elections drawing closer, the ghosts of chit-fund scams have started to haunt Trinamool leaders once again.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today quizzed Trinamool MP Tapas Pal and wife Nandini Pal in connection with the Rose Valley Scam estimated to be worth Rs 17,000-crore.

Pal was arrested by the CBI in connection with an FIR lodged in Odisha for the same scam. He was granted bail earlier this year at a personal bond of Rs 1-crore but not before he had spent nearly 13 months in jail custody.

Even as the CBI trauma is far from over for Pal, ED registered a separate FIR in August for embezzlement of public deposits by three Rose Valley Group companies.

Pal and wife have been quizzed today at CGO Complex in Salt Lake in this connection. This is because the Trinamool MP was a director in Rose Valley’s film division and allegedly earned huge remuneration from the money that the Group had collected from people illegally.
