Kolkata, 09 November: THE Joint Entrance Examination for admission to medical and engineering colleges in West Bengal in the next academic session will be conducted in the course of a single day, that is, on 17 May 2016.
Till this year, WBJEE was being held on two separate dates ~ biology paper on one day; mathematics and physics and chemistry papers on another day.
The decision to conduct the WBJEE 2016 on a single day comes in view of the Assembly elections due in Bengal next year, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board said on Monday. WBJEE 2015 was held on 05 and 06 May this year.
In an official release, the Board’s acting chairman Sajal Dasgupta said that the JEE next year would be on 17 May from 9 am to 5.30 pm. The test would be conducted in three parts: the time limit for biology and mathematics papers would be 2.5 hours each; for the chemistry and physics paper the duration would be 2 hours. There would be small recess in between.
In justification of the date that has been chosen, the Board has said that although the state board’s higher secondary exams in Bengal would be over by 29 February; CBSE and ISC examinations for Class XII would be underway from 1-20 April. Hence, the Board decided on a date when all the aspirants are able to take the entrance.
Keeping in mind the Assembly polls, the West Bengal Secondary Education Board had earlier this year advanced the secondary (Class-X) and higher secondary (Class-XII) exams for next year by almost a month. The JEE Board has now followed suit. This is even as the Election Commission of India is yet to announce the dates for the Assembly polls.
