Kolkata: TRINAMOOL MP Tapas Pal, who was arrested by CBI for alleged involvement in the multi-crore Rose Valley Scam, has been granted bail at last.
A special CBI court at Bhubaneswar in Odisha, where Pal is lodged since his arrest on 30 December 2016, granted the bail to actor-turned-politician on health grounds. The bail comes almost 13 months since the arrest.
Another Trinamool MP, Sudip Bandyopadhyay, who was also arrested almost around the same time as Pal, was released on bail last year. Pal, despite being hospitalised while under arrest by the CBI, was denied bail so far.
His lawyer today moved yet another petition seeking his release on the health grounds and the court finally relented. He is likely to reach Kolkata tomorrow.
CBI has accused Pal of being hand-in-glove with Rose Valley Group, which is accused of collecting lakhs of crores of rupees from people in Bengal, Odisha, and the northeast under dubious deposit schemes.
CBI claims that Pal was a director in Rose Valley’s film division and took a hefty sum and other advantages as pay and perks.
