Kolkata: The director general of Bangladesh Coast Guard, rear admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury, has just concluded a two-day visit to the Indian Coast Guard’s north-east regional headquarters in Kolkata.

Rear admiral Chowdhury arrived here yesterday heading a high-level delegation of the Bangladesh Coast Guard to common maritime issues. India and Bangladesh share a vast riverine border including the Sunderbans delta.

During the visit, he interacted with the Indian Coast Guard commander north-east Rajan Bargotra. The discussions centred on the sensitisation of fishermen on cross-border fishing, bilateral tabletop exercise on maritime issues, real-time information sharing, capacity building of Bangladesh Coast Guard through training and expertise sharing.

Both rear admiral Chowdhury and commander Bargotra expressed the desire to cooperate with each other in order to jointly tackle the maritime challenges across the mutually shared International Maritime Boundary Line.
