Kolkata: POLICE in Kolkata today arrested an arms dealer and two suspected terrorists allegedly attached to Ansarullah Bangla Team ~ a frontal outfit for the al-Qaeda in Bangladesh.
Several booklets on procedures to make explosives and on ways to incite terrorism, maps, laptops, pen drives, and fake Aadhaar cards have been found on them, police said.
The two suspected terrorists ~ Samshed Miya and Riazul Islam ~ hail from Bangladesh. Samshed is a civil engineer. The arms dealer, Manatosh Dey, hails from Basirhat in North 24-Parganas district.
Murlidhar Sharma, head of the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police, told a news conference at Lalbazar this afternoon that Samshed and Riazul had been illegally living in India for the past near two years.
The duo had come to Kolkata railway station today to meet arms dealer Manatosh. Acting on a tip-off from the Central Intelligence agencies, an STF team nabbed them, Sharma said. The tip-off had come in October and the city police had been on the lookout for the duo.
Not to leave any trace, the duo never stayed in a hotel or lodge in Kolkata or its vicinity. Instead, they slept on pavements, making it tough to locate them, the police officer maintained.
The maps that have been found on them pertain to Dharmatala, Eden Gardens, and other important places in Kolkata. Sharma said that the trio will be interrogated to find out the motive behind keeping the maps. They will be produced in a city court tomorrow.
