Bankura: A BJP leader has died in Bankura district following a clash between BJP and Trinamool workers over the filing of nominations for the upcoming Panchayat elections.
The incident has taken place at Ranibandh in Bankura and the victim has been identified as Ajit Murmu (44).
Murmu was part of a BJP team that was going to the Ranibandh BDO office today morning to file nomination papers for the Panchayat polls that are scheduled for 1-5 May. Trinamool cadres attacked the saffron team midway.
A clash broke out after the BJP group tried to put up a resistance. During this, Murmu suffered grievous injury. Murmu was rushed to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital by party colleagues, where he passed away in the evening.
BJP Bankura district president Vivekananda Patra has alleged that the attack on BJP workers took place in the presence of police and yet the cops did nothing to protect them. “The O-C of Ranibandh police station was himself present. He should be at once sacked for the partisan role,” Patra demanded.
