Kolkata, 25 January: WEST Bengal has got the best award for electoral roll management among all states in the country.
This apart, three districts from the state, namely, Burdwan, Birbhum, and Purulia are among the 11 districts in the country to have bagged the award for best electoral practices.
The Bengal chief electoral officer Sunil Kumar Gupta today received the award from President Pranab Mukherjee at the central National Voters’ Day celebrations in New Delhi.
At the state level celebration at Mohur Kunja in Kolkata, state home secretary Malay De felicitated three district election officers (DEO) for their contribution to the electoral roll management. Those felicitated include DEO Burdwan Soumitra Mohan, DEO North 24 Parganas Antara Acharya, and DEO Malda Sharad Dwivedi.
Speaking on the occasion, De said: “Barring a few stray incidents, election process in the state is generally peaceful” and the credit for this rested with the district level election machinery.
