Kolkata, 17 October: THE Leader of Opposition, Abdul Mannan of the Congress, has sought time from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for a meeting with the state Congress MLAs.
In a letter to the Chief Minister today, Mannan has stated that since Banerjee did not respond to his earlier communique dated 26 July, the Congress MLAs have now decided to meet her in person instead “for discussion on various important matters.” He has requested for an appointment within a fortnight from today.
The move comes at a time when one after another Congress MLAs and leaders are switching over to the Trinamool. Already four of the 44 Congress MLAs in Bengal have joined the Trinamool.
While Mannan has not elaborated what “important matters” they plan to discuss with the Chief Minister, sources said the prime among them would be the alleged framing of Congress workers and leaders in false cases, denying Congress MLAs due facilities and privileges, and topping of Congress ruled panchayat / civic bodies by Trinamool by way of defection.
The issue of Manas Bhuniya continuing as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) despite him having joined the ruling Trinamool is also on the agenda. Going by legislative norms, the post of PAC chairman is reserved for the Opposition.
