Midnapore: A sizeable portion of the private Prayag Film City at Chandrakona in West Midnapore has been gutted in a major fire.
The fire broke out this evening in the Dragon Gate, an amusement facility in the film city owned by Prayag Group, which is involved in infrastructure and film production.
People living in the vicinity of the sprawling film city suspect that it to be a case of arson and not an accidental fire.
It is, however, not clear as to who and how could set the Dragon Gate on fire when private security guards are deployed on the premises round-the-clock.
On learning about the fire, two fire tenders rushed to the spot from Chandrakona town and, so did the cops from Chandrakona police station.
There is no report of injury caused to anyone in the fire but the film city has suffered huge losses.
Originally planned as an amusement park cum film shooting facility, phase-I of Prayag Film City was inaugurated by Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan in 2012.
Since then, several Bengali and Hindi films have been shot in the facility. Also, people from West Midnapore and adjoining districts throng it for amusement and leisure by paying an entry fee.
