Asansol: A man in East Burdwan district has ended his life after being assaulted by his estranged wife in a public place.
The deceased has been identified as Palash Ghosh, a resident of Matiswar village under Kalna police station jurisdiction.
Ghosh had married Payel of Memari in the same district five years ago and had a son from her. But two years ago, Payel lodged an FIR at Kalna police station accusing Ghosh and his parents of domestic violence.
Peeved at this, Ghosh straightway went to Burdwan district court and, filed a divorce suit. Payel contested the suit and hence, the matter was being heard by the court.
On Tuesday (22 January), both of them came to the court to attend a scheduled hearing. After attending the court, Ghosh and his parents were waiting at Burdwan railway station to catch a return train home.
It was at that moment that his estranged wife, Payel arrived at the spot and started beating Ghosh with her sandal. Ghosh’s parents tried to stop her but to no avail. He was finally recused by the Government Railway Police personnel.
On reaching home, Palash straightway went to his bedroom. Today morning he was found hanging by his parents.
On being informed, a team from Kalna police station went to the house and sent Ghosh’s dead body for post-mortem.
Police have found a suicide note in the room wherein Ghosh has blamed public bashing by his wife as the trigger for his suicide.
