Kolkata: In response to a petition for validating online nominations, Calcutta High Court today directed the CPI-M to furnish a complete list of its candidates who could not file nominations for the Panchayat poll due to alleged violence by Trinamool.
A division bench headed by justice Biswanath Samaddar gave the directive while hearing the petition by CPI-M for validating 134-odd nominations e-mailed to the State Election Commission (SEC).
CPI-M has pleaded that the candidates could not submit the nominations in person due to physical intimidation and violence by Trinamool cadres in different parts of Bengal.
The party has cited a ruling by a single-judge bench of the High Court wherein the judge made the SEC validate nine nominations from Bhangar in South 24-Parganas filed through WhatsApp.
During the hearing this morning, justice Samaddar directed the CPI-M counsel to furnish the list of candidates who could not file the nominations. Past the lunch break, the CPI-M counsel furnished a partial list and sought a day’s time for submitting the complete list of such candidates.
Justice Samaddar granted the plea while asking the CPI-M counsel to share the partial list with the SEC for now. The next hearing in the matter is slated for 7 May.
