Kolkata: The State Election Commission (SEC) has ordered re-polling in 572 polling booths where voting for the Panchayat poll was marred by irregularities and violence on Monday.

On Monday, voting was taken in 47,451 polling booths. The re-poll will be taken from 7 am to 5 pm tomorrow. The 572 booths are spread over all the 20 districts in the state where Panchayat poll is being conducted this time.

They include 59 polling booths in North 24-Parganas, 29 in South 24-Parganas, 10 in Hooghly, 38 in Howrah, 60 in Nadia, 23 in East Midnapore, 29 in West Midnapore, 7 in Puluria, 6 in Birbhum, 5 in Bankura, 18 in East Burdwan, 3 in West Burdwan, 63 in Murshidabad, 55 in Malda, 35 in South Dinajpur, 73 in North Dinajpur, 52 in Cooch Behar, 5 in Jalpaiguri, and 2 in Alipurduar.

Meanwhile, SEC today said that as many as 82.13 per cent out of the 3.33-crore voters has exercised their franchise for the rural polls on Monday. After the re-polling tomorrow, the counting of votes will take place on 17 May from 8 in the morning.
