Siliguri: A middle-aged man, who had killed his wife a few years ago, has been murdered by his son in what appears to be an act of revenge.
The incident has taken place at Indran village under Itahar police station in North Dinajpur district. The deceased has been identified as Ranjit Das (52).
Ranjit has two sons from his late wife Rupa Das. The elder one is Rakesh and the younger Sumit.
About seven years ago, when Rakesh was in Delhi where he had been employed in a small time job, their mother was beaten to death by their father in a drunken state.
Following this, police arrested the accused father Ranjit and, he was subsequently pronounced guilty by a court for unintentional murder. He was sentenced to jail for this.
In the recent past, Ranjit was released from jail on the completion of his jail term. Learning about this, elder son Rakesh came home and, since then he was into a hostile relationship with his father.
On Sunday night, the father-son got into a fight and in the course of this, Rakesh hacked his father repeatedly with a sharp weapon. After this, he fled from the house.
His younger brother Sumit and, neighbours took Ranjit to the Raiganj Super Specialty Hospital in a critically injured state. Ranjit died there Monday morning.
Sumit has told reporters that Rakesh was extremely hostile towards their father for the murder of their mother. Rakesh has probably killed their father in revenge, he said.
Police have registered an FIR and are looking for Rakesh, who is still absconding.
