Siliguri: TO boost river tourism, Bengal tourism department is constructing eight houseboats at per with international standards.
“These houseboats are costing us Rs 1-crore each. Each of them will have four double bedrooms with attached bath, a common drawing room, conference room, and a master kitchen,” state tourism minister Goutam Deb told reporters in Siliguri today.
The minister said that the houseboats will be stationed in the rivers in the Sunderbans and on the Hooghly river between Kolkata and Murshidabad. “Houseboats cannot be stationed on turbulent water. Hence, we will look for places where the river is calm,” he said.
The state tourism department already has a few houseboats in the Sunderbans but those are of extremely basic in nature.
