Barasat / Kolkata: A tourist hailing from Bengal has died and nine are injured in an accident in Manali in Himachal Pradesh.
On Sunday, they set out in an SUV for Rohtang Pass ~ a snow-clad mountain pass at an elevation of 13,050 feet in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas. The driver of the hired SUV lost control and it plunged into a gorge near Gulaba.
It was such a horrific accident that almost the entire upper portion of the SUV came out lose and the frontal part got severely twisted. Of the 10 tourists, one named Biswajit Das of Chandpara was flung onto a rock and died on the spot. The remaining nine suffered grievous injuries.
One of the injured, Prasanta Das, who is comparatively less injured, managed to make calls to Manali police and thus all of them were rescued from the accident site. They are now admitted to the Manali Hospital.
Six of the nine injured have been identified as Prasanta Das, Shampa Das, Bubai Das, Mithun Biswas, Suman Das, and Tuktuki Das. Prasanta informed deceased Biswajit’s family members back in North 24-Parganas about the accident.
The family members of the deceased and the injured have left for Manali today itself.
