Bolpur, 01 September: A teacher of Krishna Chandra College at Birbhum’s Hetampur has been arrested on charges of molesting a girl during class.

The accused teacher Akshay Acharjee of zoology department was arrested by cops from Dubrajpur police station after the girl lodged a written complaint through the college’s teacher-in-charge.

The girl, studying in first year BSc, has alleged that during a practical class of zoology this afternoon, she was alone in the lab. Taking advantage of this, Acharjee caught her by the hand and then touched different parts of her inappropriately.

This made her run out of the lab and rush straight to the students’ union room where she narrated her ordeal to others. Subsequently, she lodged a written complaint to the teacher-in-charge Deepika Saha. But Saha refused to refer this to the police.

This made the students of the college to put the office room under lock and key and resort to an agitation demanding Acharjee’s arrest. Unable to contain the agitation, Saha finally called up police and handed over the complaint to them. Police then arrested away the accused teacher.

While being taken away, Acharjee claimed that there were two technicians in the lab and that he did not do any wrong to the girl. The arrested teacher will be produced in court tomorrow.
