Bolpur: A man in Birbhum district today blew up his house with explosives and suffered injuries in the process while trying to harm wife with whom he had a fight.

The incident took place today morning at Kazipara village under Sadaipur police station jurisdiction. The accused Jamir Molla (40) is now admitted to Suri District Hospital.

Police and neighbours said that Jamir works in a stone quarry at neighbouring Bankura district. He recently came home to spend the upcoming Eid with wife Sabura Begum.

Yesterday afternoon Jamir had a fight with Sabura over some issue. Still brooding from this, he consumed alcohol today morning and then set up an explosive in the mud house using gelatin sticks and detonators that he had stolen from the stone quarry.

Thinking that wife Sabura is the house, Jamir walked to a little distance by detonating the explosive by burning a wire. Sabura, however, around the same time went to the washroom located in the backyard through the rear door of the house.

The explosives went off, blowing up the tin roof of the house and a wall. Jamir was injured by the splinters that rushed towards him like rockets.

Hearing the sound of explosion neighbours rushed in and alerted Sadaipur police station. Police later rescued Jamir and sent him to hospital. A case has been registered against him and he will be arrested on being discharged from the hospital, police said.
