Siliguri: A wild bison today gored a forest guard and dragged him for about half-a-kilometre until other forest guard came to the rescue.

The incident took place today afternoon in the north beat of Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary in north Bengal. The critically injured forest guard, Nilay Guhamajumdar, is now admitted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri.

His colleagues said that they were on a routine patrol in the north beat forest when a wild bison suddenly surfaced from nowhere and gored Guhamajumdar in the left leg.

With the forest guard stuck to its horn, the bison kept running towards deep into the jungle. Seeing this, other forest guards started running after the bison and this made the wild beast to leave Guhamajumdar after a run of about half-a-kilometre.

Colleagues at once rushed an injured Guhamajumdar to Madarihat Block Hospital. But with his condition being critical, the forest guard was referred to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.

Doctors have said that Guhamajumdar has suffered a grievous injury in his leg and has also suffered severe bleeding. He shall have to undergo a surgery to fix the injuries.
