Bolpur: THE Birbhum district general secretary of BJP has been stabbed on the premises of the district collectorate at Suri allegedly by Trinamool cadres.
The incident took place today when Kalosona Mondal, accompanied by BJP district president Ramakrishna Roy and other party colleagues, went to serve a memorandum to the district magistrate against Trinamool’s strong-arm tactics to deter BJP candidates from filing nominations for the Panchayat elections.
As soon as the BJP delegation reached the collectorate at Suri, a clash broke out between them and Trinamool cadres. During this, Mondal was stabbed in the bum; Roy and other BJP workers were beaten up.
Bleeding from the bum, Mondal somehow managed to rush to the adjacent office of the superintendent of police and took shelter there. He was later hospitalised but doctors have said that he is out of danger.
Trinamool leadership in Birbhum has denied the involvement of their party cadres in the attack on the BJP delegation. Police are yet to arrest anyone.
In another incident related to the upcoming Panchayat polls, a BJP candidate Kalipada Sarkar was attacked at Dinhata in Cooch Behar when he was returning home after filing nomination paper today morning. He is now admitted to MJN Hospital at Cooch Behar town.
Similarly, the Murshidabad BJP district president Gaurishankar Ghosh has been beaten up at Lalbagh area this morning over the filing of nominations for the Panchayat polls. In these two incidents too, Trinamool cadres are in the dock.
