Kolkata: MUKUL Roy’s son and Trinamool MLA, Subhrangshu Roy, today skipped a party public rally at Rani Rashmani Avenue in the city organised to respond to allegations hurled by senior Roy at the same venue on 10 November.
This happened even as several newspapers had published reports quoting Trinamool sources that Subhrangshu will be taking on his father from the rally convened on the pretext of opposing demonetisation and the complications in Goods and Services Tax.
As the rally began, one after another senior Trinamool leader such as Firhad Hakim, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Bartya Basu, etc took the stage but there was no sign of Subhrangshu.
The development is significant as Subhrangshu had earlier maintained that despite his father switching over to BJP, he will continue to be with the Trinamool. [READ: Power thicker than blood: Mukul Roy’s only son refuses to stand by father]
Speaking at the rally, Firhad Hakim said that people of Bengal will not believe anything uttered from BJP. He added that to usher in change one needs to struggle relentlessly and win the confidence of people as Mamata Banerjee has done to oust the CPI-M from power in 2011.
But of all speakers, Trinamool Bhatpara MLA, Arjun Singh, was most virulent. He dared Mukul Roy to win even a municipal poll on BJP ticket.
“Forget MP-MLA, try contesting for a councillor’s post on BJP ticket. I vow that even an unknown man on the Trinamool ticket will be enough to defeat you,” said the Trinamool strongman.
