Kolkata: A BJP office has been vandalised at Kalighat area in the city. This comes amidst the ongoing face-off between the Bengal government and the Centre via CBI.

The vandalism took place around 1 this afternoon (4 February) in the BJP local office at Harish Chatterjee Street. It is the same road by which is located Chief Minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee’s residence.

It was a gang of youths, their faces covered with black masks, vandalised the entire office in about 20 minutes.

All the furniture, including plastic chairs, wooden tables, a steel almirah, have been smashed. Some documents and BJP flags stored in the office were burned.

Jiban Sen, BJP South Kolkata district president, alleged that the vandalism has been carried out by Trinamool cadres.

This comes on a day Trinamool cadres blocked railway tracks and roads in different parts of the state, especially south Bengal, protesting a CBI raid on Kolkata Police commissioner’s residence yesterday that was thwarted by the police.

The raid was in connection with the chit-fund scam probe.

Trinamool cadres had last night itself held a demonstration in front of the residence of BJP leader Mukul Roy at Kanchrapara in North 24-Parganas.
