Diamond Harbour, 17 October: AN office of the BJP has been torched and three party workers injured in an attack allegedly carried out by Trinamool cadres at Canning in South 24-Parganas district.

The incident took place this evening and one of the injured BJP workers has been shifted to Chittaranjan National Hospital in Kolkata as he has suffered grievous injuries in the head. The other two are admitted to Canning Sub-divisional Hospital.

The attack took place following a road blockade by BJP workers at Canning Bazar in the evening. The blockade was resorted to against the vandalism in the house of a local BJP leader.

During the blockade, the BJP workers carried out vandalism at some nearby shops close to the Trinamool camp. Getting to know of this, a group of Trinamool cadres arrived at the spot and thrashed away the BJP workers.

They subsequently resorted to vandalism at the local BJP office and a clash ensued when BJP workers tried to resist. In the clash, three BJP workers got injured, while Trinamool cadres also set fire to the BJP office after having carried out massive vandalism.

Police arrived at the spot and carried out a lathi-charge to disperse the violent crowd of Trinamool cadres. No arrests have been made as yet.
