Kolkata / Siliguri, 01 March: DAY after her arrest by CID for alleged involvement in infant trafficking, BJP today removed Jalpaiguri leader Juhi Choudhury (28), and her father Rabindra Narayan Choudhury, from all posts in the party.
This comes on a day Juhi was produced before the Jalpaiguri district court, which sent her to 12 days CID custody. The BJP leader was arrested by CID yesterday night from Khoribari police station area near Nepal border in Siliguri sub-division.
Juhi was on the run ever since the arrest of two office bearers of Jalpaiguri’s Bimala Shishu Griha ~ chairperson Chandana Chakraborty, and adoption officer Sonali Mondal ~ for allegedly running an infant trafficking racket in the guise of an NGO.
Announcing the removal of Juhi and her father from party posts, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh told news-persons at Nizam Palace in Kolkata this afternoon this has been done because the father-daughter went to Delhi to lobby for the NGO without informing the party.
Juhi was a general secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha (women’s wing), and her father was a state committee member of the party.
The state BJP president, and his party colleagues, including national secretary Rahul Sinha, was at Nizam Palace to meet CBI joint director with the demand for expediting probe into the multi-crore Saradha and Rose Valley scams in which several Trinamool leaders are allegedly involved.
Emerging out of the meeting, he said: “Juhi and her father went to Delhi without informing the party, and now she has been accused of a serious crime that has tarnished the party’s image. Hence, they have been removed from party posts until they come out clean.”
Ghosh said that the party would extend legal assistance to Juhi if she “asks for.”
As regards arrested prime accused in the Jalpaiguri infant trafficking racket Chandana Chakraborty saying that she had consulted BJP national secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly through Juhi, the state BJP president said that it was nothing but a ploy to malign the party.
“In Kharagpur (Srinu) murder case, my name was floated by police as an accused. The same is being done in this case,” he said.
While being produced in Jalpaiguri court, Juhi too alleged that she has been framed because of political considerations. “None can be put behind bars by slapping false case. Probe will surely bring out the truth and that will be for everyone to see,” she told reports.
