EISHAN Quadri, who had taken just 35 days to complete the script of the 2012 acclaimed Bollywood flick Gangs of Wasseypur, seems to be a man in a hurry!
Three years since his first shot to fame, Quadri is now all set to try his luck as a debutant director with Meerathiya Gangsters that releases next Friday. And this time, Quadri took only 12 days, yes 12 days, to complete the script for his directorial debut.
“The film is based on the real incidents of extortions in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Names of all the characters used in the film are that of my real friends in Meerat,” says Quadri interacting to a group of film reporters on a humid Kolkata afternoon. Three main actors of the movie~ Jaideep Ahlawat, Chandra Choor Rai and Shadab Kamal ~ nod readily.
Meerathiya Gangsters depicts dark comedy similar to the Gangs of Wasseypur, but this time, Quadri’s research has made him venture into the demography of Meerut.
Quadri says, Bollywood has started to look beyond the formula flick to only make money and is now investing in films that can compete with the world cinema. Gangs of Wasseypur, which Quadri wrote, was screened in several famed festivals including the Cannes.
His vision of portraying real incidents and shape them into dark comedy is one of Quadri’s biggest strengths. And this makes the characters that he writes, very confident.
Aap ek ek dialogue ghar le jaogey (each one of the dialogues will be on your lips), claims Jaideep Ahlawat who plays Chowdhury in Meerathiya Gangsters.
One will also come across Chandra Choor Rai (earlier appeared in Dam Lagake Haisa) in the role of Rahul Challenger and Shadab Kamal (last appeared in BA Pass) playing Sunny.
The film also features actors like Sanjay Mishra, Mukul Dev, Akash Dahiya, Vansh Bhardwaj, Jatin Sarna, Nushrat Bharucha, Saundarya Sharma, Ishita Sharma, Brijendra Kala and Malkhan Singh.
The film is slated for a nation-wide release on 18 September and Quadri is confident that it will do dhamaal in the box office. Eminent director Anurag Kasyap, who is one of the producers of the film, has offered some touch in the editing of the movie.
