Cooch Behar: A member of the bomb disposal squad in north Bengal has been injured when a container bomb exploded while being defused at Dinhata in Cooch Behar today noon.
The injured, Debasish Mitra, has suffered burns in his face and is now admitted to Dinhata Sub-divisional Hospital. He is a member of the CID’s bomb disposal squad based at Alipurduar.
A few days ago, police had confiscated five container bombs from a village located next to Bangladesh border at Dinhata. The bombs were today brought to Krishi Mela ground at Dinhata for disposal by the bomb disposal squad.
While carrying out the task, one of the five container bombs suddenly exploded injuries Mitra in the face. Going against the laid down safety norms, Mitra was not wearing an explosion-proof mask.
The explosives in the container were not of high capacity, else it could have proved fatal for Mitra, another member of the squad said on conditions of anonymity.
