Kolkata, 21 August: THE heart of Kolkata city witnessed yet another shocking crime with a middle-aged man being shot dead by some persons whom he apparently knew.
The incident took place on Thursday night at a boutique workshop at First Lane in Topsia in east Kolkata. The police today arrested three youths in this connection and got their remand until 28 August after they were produced before a city court. Another youth accused in the killing, is absconding.
According to local residents, at around 8.30 pm on Thursday they saw four youths enter the boutique workshop located on the ground floor of an old building at 9/3/1 First Lane. A little later, they heard gun shots in the workshop and then saw the four youths sped away in the two motorbikes that they came.
A worker of the workshop, Arman Choudhury soon came out crying for help and alerted the Tiljala police station as well. Local residents rushed in to find the workshop owner Md Murshid lying in a pool of blood with bullet injuries in his stomach and chest. He was later declared brought dead at the National Medical College and Hospital.
Early this morning, police arrested three youths from Park Street for their alleged involvement in the killing and have booked them for murder and possessing illegal arms. They have been identified as ~ Ishan Farooque, Wasim Akram and Md Sadiq. The fourth accused, Amir Khan has gone hiding.
Relatives of the victim said that he used to work together with the accused at a tailoring shop on Park Street and started his own boutique workshop at Topsia about two months ago. They suspect that a pending financial transaction between him and the accused might have led to the killing.
Police however, are yet to reach a conclusion and are investigating to find out whether some illicit business is linked to the crime.
