Malda: A minor boy has suffered bullet injuries when he was watching a Muharram procession with family members.

The incident has taken place today 10 September evening at Hazipur village under Ratua police station jurisdiction in Malda. The victim boy has been identified as Abdul Razzak (8), a student of class-III.

According to his parents, the entire family was watching a Muharram procession that was passing by their residence today evening. All of a sudden, Abdul fell to the ground.

In trying to lift him up, his mother found out that Abdul has been hit by bullets that probably came from the Muharram crowd. One bullet hit him in the leg and another brushed past a side of his chest.

The family at once rushed Abdul to Ratua Primary Health Centre and from there to a private nursing home in Malda town. The boy is out of danger as the bullets that hit him appears to be that of an airgun.

A team from Ratua police station rushed to the spot and to avert any trouble of the incident, policemen have been put on patrol in the locality.

Brandishing of arms and ammunition replicas has been an old practice during Muharram processions in several parts of Bengal. In some cases, some overzealous participants even join such processions with actual arms like swords and airgun, etc.
