Kolkata, 20 October: AN officer of the Border Security Force (BSF), who was injured in an attack by rustlers in Tripura on 16 October, passed away in an hospital in Kolkata today.
Deepak Kumar Mondal was the second-in-command of BSF’s 145 Battalion, which is now deployed at Sipahijala district in Tripura. Mondal hailed from Kalyani in Nadia district of Bengal.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
BSF sources said that Mondal was run over by a vehicle that was being used by rustlers to smuggle cattle from Tripura to Bangladesh. This happened in the wee hours on 16 October when Mondal and his team was trying to apprehend the rustler; this left him critically injured.
The BSF officer was brought to Kolkata using an air-ambulance on that day itself and was admitted to a super-specialty hospital for injuries to his head and legs. After battling for every single breath for the past four days, he succumbed today noon.
