Kolkata: CBI today raided the offices of Pailan Group in and around Kolkata and the residence of its promoter Apurba Saha.

The raids were conducted as part of an investigation against Pailan Group for allegedly collecting around Rs 200-crore deposits from people under dubious schemes in violation of SEBI and RBI norms.

Three teams of the CBI launched the raids simultaneously around 10 this morning at Saha’s palatial residence at Ballygunge in south Kolkata and the offices of his company at Sonarpur and Joka in neighbouring South 24-Parganas.

Saha has been absconding ever since the CBI started the investigation against Pailan Group some three years ago. In today’s raids, the CBI officers impounded several documents pertaining to real-estate that the company bought in all over Bengal with the deposits collected from people.

The officers also quizzed MN Pal, the registrar of Pailan College of Management & Technology located at Joka for over two hours.

Pailan Group runs several “international” schools, management institute, food processing units, and residential real-estate projects mostly in southern Bengal.
