Kolkata: ADMIRAL Katsutoshi Kawano, Chief of Staff, Japan Self Defence Forces (JSDF), was in Kolkata on Wednesday as part of a two-day official visit to strengthen Indo-Japan ties.
This was the first of such a visit to the city by the COS of the Japanese forces. He had arrived in the city on 6 March leading a delegation of five officers of JSDF.
Admiral Kawano’s visit is a part of the bilateral visits that was agreed upon during the Indian defence minister’s Japan tour in September last year under the framework of ‘India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership’.
Admiral Kawano today called on Lt Gen Abhay Krishna, GOC-in-C of the Eastern Command, at the Command Headquarters Fort William. They emphasised the recognition of bilateral strategic partnership and broad-based co-operation in defence and security fields.
