Kolkata: Thanks to the free flow of north-westerly wind, the temperature in Kolkata and the adjoining areas are likely to dip to 14 degree Celsius by the end of the week.

Alipore Weather Observation Centre in the city made the forecast today when the minimum temperature fell to 16.1 degree Celsius as compared to 16.7 degree Celsius on Monday.

Today’s minimum temperature is slightly below normal and yet Kolkata is experiencing the winter chill due to the gush of a cool breeze from north India sweeping through Gangetic Bengal.

By Saturday (8 December), the wind flow is expected to intensify and usher in a cold bite in the city, which will be a little earlier than the trend in the past two years.

In fact, the districts in south Bengal are already experiencing the chill. On Monday the temperature was below normal in some of these districts.

Today, the minimum temperature in places like Santiniketan and Behrampore were around 12 degree Celsius and, at Kalimpong, it was as low as 11 degree Celsius.

The weather office has said that throughout the rest of the week, the maximum and minimum temperatures in the state will range between 28 and 11 degree Celsius.
