Malda, 28 October: A student of class IX has died of bullet injury following a clash over land dispute at Gumanitala village in Malda’s in Manikchak.
The Imam of the village mosque, who also received a bullet, is admitted to the Malda Medical College and Hospital. The incident took place late on Tuesday night after two rival groups of villagers clashed.
The incident has assumed a political colour as the Trinamool Congress claimed that the deceased student Kaiyum Ali was an active supporter of their party. Local Trinamool leaders alleged, he was shot at by CPI-M workers.
Deceased Kaiyum was a student of class IX at North Chandipur High School. Late on Tuesday night, a fight broke out between two groups of villagers over a long pending land dispute.
In the course of the clash, somebody opened fire and Kaiyum and the Imam of village mosque were injured by the bullets. They were rushed to the Manikchak rural hospital where doctors declared Kaiyum brought dead.
The Imam was referred to the Malda Medical College and Hospital in the night itself. He is still battling for life.
Deceased Kaiyum’s kin have named 21 persons in the FIR lodged with the police but none has been arrested yet.
