Diamond Harbour: A class monitor boy has died in a South 24-Parganas school after being hit by a classmate.
The incident has taken place in a government-run school at Kultali’s Andharia village. The school concerned is Dongajora Ramanath High School.
Deceased Nizamuddin Molla, studying in class VII, was the monitor for his class. A batchmate of him, Altaf Sheikh (name changed), was bunking from class when the teacher was yet to arrive.
Being the class monitor, Nizamuddin tried stopping him and went up to the school gate to discourage Altaf from bunking. But with Altaf being adamant, Nizamuddin warned that he will report the matter to the head-teacher.
This left Altaf furious. In a fit of rage, he hit Nizamuddin left and right making him collapse to the ground. As soon as this happened, Altaf fled from the spot. The incident took place when no other student was close by.
A little later, a teacher, who was watching the CCTV camera monitor, noticed Nizamuddin lying on the ground. Soon he and other teachers rushed and found the boy unconscious. They alerted his family and took him to a local hospital in their presence.
A critical Nizamuddin was referred to Chittaranjan Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata in the night. By the time his family arrived with him at the hospital, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The bereaved family lodged an FIR against Altaf Sheikh at Kultali police station. Police have detained the accused.
