Kolkata: Two teenage boys have been crushed to death and a youth is battling for life in a hospital in yet another road accident in Kolkata caused by competing buses.
The accident took place near Muchibazar post office on Ultadanga Main Road last night. The victims have been identified as Bittu Sen (16) and Akash Dutta (11); their injured friend is Mrinmoy Parikshit (23).
The trio was returning from Muraripukur to their homes at Canal East Road’s Daspara off Ultadanag on a scooter around 10.30 pm last night. None of them had helmets.
As they were crossing the Muchibazar post office two Khanna-bound private buses of route 215A and 215A/1 were competing with each other to move ahead. During this, the 215A route bus hit the scooter from behind.
All the three boys fell on the road: the speeding bus crushed the head of Bittu and the abdomen of Akash, Mrinmoy suffered injuries in his hands and legs. The trio was rushed to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital at Belgachia, where doctors declared the first two dead on arrival. Mrinmoy is undergoing treatment in a critical condition.
After the accident, the driver and conductor of the killer bus fled the spot by abandoning the bus. Angry local people vandalised the bus till police arrived. Police have launched a manhunt for the absconding bus driver.
