Kolkata, 22 March: CONGRESS this evening has released its third list of eight candidates for the Bengal Assembly polls, and has replaced five candidates who were named in the two previous lists.

With this, the number of Congress candidates this Assembly polls in Bengal has risen to 93. Earlier on 16 March the party had named 43 candidates, and then on 18 March another 42 candidates were announced.

The third list, most probably the last list from Congress, makes it clear that the party is headed for a “friendly contest” with Left candidates in at least 15 Assembly seats spread over the state. The Left and Congress are fighting the Bengal elections on a seat sharing formula but the two have failed to reach an agreement on these 15 seats out of the total 294 in the state.

Prominent names in Congress’ third candidate list are ~ Somen Mitra, former president of the Bengal Congress at Chowringhee in Kolkata; all India secretary Subhankar Sarkar at Seerampore in Hooghly;Santosh Pathak at Howrah North;  and Rakesh Kumar Singh at Kolkata Port.

The party has replaced candidates in five seats with the new candidates being ~ Alberuni Zulkmain at Malatipur in Malda; Hasanurazzaman Sheikh at Kaliganj, and Pratapkanti Roy at Krishnaganj in Nadia; Fanibhusan Giri at Patharpratima, and Sujit Patowari at Joynagar in South 24-Parganas.
