Kolkata: CPI-M’s junior electoral partner CPI has turned down an invitation from the Trinamool for attending a grand public meeting of the anti-BJP parties in Kolkata on 19 January.
Trinamool is hosting the meeting at the Brigade Parade Ground in the city and trying to turn it the largest platform of anti-BJP forces ahead on the Lok Sabha polls due in mid next year.
Accordingly, Trinamool is sending out an invitation to top leadership of all non-BJP and non-Congress parties for attending the meeting.
Although the party skipped CPI-M, it sent out a rally to the CPI extending an invitation to its general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy.
But Reddy has outright turned down the invitation. He told a news conference on Friday that given the political relationship with Trinamool in Bengal, CPI will never attend a Trinamool rally.
“Every day our comrades are being attacked by Trinamool in Bengal. They are vandalising our party offices. This being the situation, the question does not arise of mine sharing a Trinamool dais,” Reddy said.
