Siliguri, 02 January: DARJEELING Hills received the season’s first snowfall on Monday brining cheers to residents and tourists alike.
People of Sandakpu and areas adjacent to Sukhiapokhri woke up this morning to an all-white blanket of snow covering the hilly terrain and trails. At Sandakpu, the snowfall was as thick as three inches in some places; on Sukhiapokhri Road it was up to two inches.
On seeing the snow cover, tourists from adjacent areas rushed in and so did the residents. They indulged in mischief by throwing snowflake at each other and clicked photographs to capture the moment on their mobile cameras.
Snowfall at the very start of the New Year has raised hope that Tiger Hill, the famous sunrise view point near Darjeeling town, would receive snow shower very soon. Tourism industry in north Bengal looks forward to snowfall in the Hills as this increases the flow of tourists.
