Barasat: Dengue has claimed its first victim in Bengal this monsoon. An elderly bank staff from North 24-Parganas district have died today in a private nursing home at Salt Lake in Kolkata.
Kaser Ali Molla (57) was a resident of Katiahat under Baduria police station jurisdiction.
According to his family members, Molla was suffering from fever for about a fortnight. This made them admit him at the Basirhat District Hospital on 22 July. But with his condition deteriorating, the family brought him to a private super-specialty hospital at EM Bypass in Kolkata.
While Molla was not recuperating, the hospital bill was jumping by the day. Considering this, his family relocated him last week to a private nursing home at Salt Lake where the charges are comparatively lower.
The 57-year man breathed his last at the Salt Lake nursing home early today. Dengue shock syndrome has been mentioned as the cause of death in the death certificate.
Baduria and several other pockets of Basirhat sub-division in North 24-Parganas had reported the largest number of fever deaths last monsoon. At once point, the situation had become such that people of some affected villages had fled from their homes temporarily to avoid getting afflicted by the deadly fever.
